Privacy Policy

1. Controller

Machinery Insights is an independent research initiative based in Barcelona, Spain. For privacy enquiries, access requests or withdrawal of consent, contact research@machineryinsights.org.

2. Data we collect

Depending on how you use the site, we may process the following categories of data:

• Email address provided through the newsletter form.
• Email address provided to receive the published summary of a survey.
• Form source, consent timestamp and related list membership metadata.
• Hashed IP address where technically available, for abuse prevention and service integrity.
• Technical server logs and strictly necessary session data required to operate the site securely.

3. Purposes and legal bases

We process personal data for the following purposes:

• To send Machinery Insights research updates by email, where you have subscribed through the footer form.
• To send the published summary of a survey where you have explicitly requested it.
• To maintain suppression lists, unsubscribe records and delivery controls.
• To operate, secure and administer the website and its forms.

The legal basis for newsletter and survey-summary emails is your consent. The legal basis for technical operation, security, abuse prevention and suppression management is Machinery Insights’ legitimate interest in running the service responsibly and documenting withdrawals of consent.

4. Survey anonymity

Survey responses are analysed and published in aggregate. Where a respondent provides an email address to receive a published report, that contact data is stored separately from the survey answers and is not used to identify individual responses in published output.

5. Recipients and processors

Personal data is not sold. It may be processed by service providers acting on behalf of Machinery Insights for hosting, infrastructure security, database operation and email delivery. At the time of publication, email delivery is handled through Amazon Web Services.

6. Retention

Newsletter subscription data and survey-report contact data are kept until you unsubscribe, withdraw consent, request erasure, or until Machinery Insights determines the address is no longer active or relevant for the stated purpose. Suppression records may be kept for longer where necessary to ensure that future mail is not sent after an opt-out, complaint or delivery failure.

7. International transfers

If a service provider processes data outside the European Economic Area, Machinery Insights will rely on an appropriate legal transfer mechanism where required, such as the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses or another recognised safeguard.

8. Your rights

You may request access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability or objection where applicable. You may also withdraw consent at any time.

• Newsletter emails always include an unsubscribe link.
• Survey-summary contact requests can be withdrawn by contacting research@machineryinsights.org.
• If you believe your data has been handled unlawfully, you may lodge a complaint with the Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD).

9. Changes

This policy may be updated as the site, its infrastructure or its legal structure evolves. The latest version published on this page is the one currently in force.
